Scholarship Opportunities for Domestic Violence Survivors

Doves offers scholarship opportunities for survivors of domestic violence. Through this program, survivors can submit essays that reflect on their journey, the impact of abuse, and the importance of healing and empowerment. Scholarships are awarded to essays that inspire hope, promote understanding, and foster positive change, providing recipients with the opportunity to continue their education while contributing to a vital cause. Together, we can support survivors in building brighter futures and create a safer, more compassionate world for all.

Criteria/Rules for awarding scholarships

  • Illinois Resident Applying for College or Trade School
  • You must be currently enrolled or have been accepted into an accredited College, Trade School, or University.
  • You must submit a transcript along with a completed application and essay based on one of the topics below.
  • You may also submit your acceptance letter from a school.

Applicant must identify in one or more of the following ways:

  • Is a victim/survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking;
  • Has been affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking (i.e. child who has witnessed domestic violence; nonviolent caregiver, etc.);
  • Has a demonstrated desire to work in the domestic/sexual violence field and plans to utilize scholarship funds to further progress toward goal.

Essay Topics

Participants of the scholarship are awarded up to $2,500.

Please choose ONE of the topics below and write a 500-1,000 word essay:

  • In what ways has childhood domestic violence affected you and your life and how are you working to overcome this?
  • How have you or would you like to bring awareness to the devastating effects of childhood domestic violence?
  • Tell us about an organization or someone you know in your community that has positively impacted you in your healing journey in overcoming childhood domestic violence?
